Norma López-Burton I am from Bayamón, Puerto Rico. I am the supervisor in charge of first year Spanish program at UC Davis.I enjoy teaching Spanish at every level and I feel teaching is one of the most important contributions I can make. I highly regard the students here at Davis and find it personally satisfying to see them learn Spanish and learn to appreciate new cultures. I believe that a relaxed and fun atmosphere in the classroom sets the stage for the best way to learn. I look forward to continuing doing my best as a teacher and supervisor. Rebecca Estes ¡Hola! My name is Rebecca Estes, and I am a 3rd year PhD student in Spanish Linguistics. I am originally from San Jose, CA, but studied at UC San Diego as an undergrad in Ethnic Studies, and at CSU Sacramento for my M.A. in Spanish. While I did not grow up speaking Spanish, I began learning the language in school from a young age and had a great experience studying abroad for a year in Costa Rica. My research at UCD is focused on Second Language Acquisition, especially through the use of technology. I love to travel, spend time with my kids, and learn new languages and cultures. I look forward to meeting you in class! |

Daniel Herrera-Cepero My name is Daniel Herrera Cepero. I come from Madrid, Spain, and this will be my first year in the UC Davis PhD program. I have studied Spanish Topography (not joking), Filology, and Comparative Literature in Spain. My academic interests are Spanish peninsular poetry from the twentieth century and have lived abroad in The Netherlands and England. However, this is my first time at the other side of the ocean! I hope this will be an unforgettable experience for all of us! |

Brad Langer Senior Teaching Assistant for 2009-2010 ¡Hola! My name is Brad Langer and I am from San Luis Obispo, CA. I am a PhD student focusing on Second Language Acquisition. I have been teaching Spanish here at Davis for 5 years and there is nothing more fun, challenging and rewarding to me. I have lived in Spain and Argentina, where I fell in love with the Spanish language. When I’m not teaching, I enjoy playing and watching a variety of sports, going to the beach and spending time with my friends and family. I look forward to seeing you in class! |

| Arturo Laris Hello! Arturo Laris Laris (aka ALL) is my name. I am the sixth child in a family of nine siblings. Orange County has been my neighborhood since I was a boy, though I have also set foot in East Los Angeles, Chicago, and Jalisco (Mexico) for extended periods of time. I am a graduate student at UC Davis because I enjoy Spanish literature, where my long-term goal is to earn a PhD. |

Roberto López-Contreras It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to our amazing Spanish program. I lived in beautiful Seaside, California for a decade before moving to Davis in 2004 for my undergraduate experience. This will be my fifth year in Davis and my first year as a graduate student in the Master's Program. I enjoy learning about everything and believe that everyone knows something I do not know. My current hobbies are puppet-making, triathlon, learning how to cook and becoming a mime. I look forward to getting to know you during class and during office hours. |
| Katie Stafford This will be my first year in the PhD program in Spanish literature at UC Davis. I have lived abroad in Spain and Colombia and have taught high school Spanish for several years. I just finished my Master's degree at Stanford University, where my studies focused on 20th Century Latin American Literature, most specifically in contemporary Colombian literature. I also love to paint, read (obviously), backpack, and listen to live music. |

Daniela Suárez Hello, everyone! My name is Daniela Suárez. I was born and raised in Yurecuaro, Mexico but came to the States back in 2001. I completed a BA in Linguistics and Spanish at UC Davis, and now I am back for my first-year as a graduate student of Latin American Literature. Christine Willie Hello, my name is Christine Willie and this is my first year in the Ph.D. program in Latin American literature at UC Davis. I have just received a M.A. in Latin American Literature from the University of Maryland where I also taught several grammar classes. My main study interest is the Indigenous image in literature. During the summer times you will find me between New Jersey and Arizona visiting with my family and, also, studying my father's language on the Navajo reservation. I look forward to having you in my class! |
