Counterposing Nossa and Nuestra América: This book project considers the ways in which Brazilian and Spanish American essayists (Nabuco, Rodó, Reyes, Buarque) have examined and challenged Brazil's relationship to the idea of Latin America. Further, it argues for the importance of sustained critical engagement between the fields of Luso-Brazilian and Hispanic studies.
Iberianist Dialogues and Disjunctions: Debating Luso-Hispanic relations in late 19th century Portugal and Spain: This long-term research project focuses on comparative analyses of the essayistic and critical work of Antero de Quental, J.P. de Oliveira Martins, Juan Valera and Marcelino Menéndez y Pelayo, and presents iberianism as a critical tool for reimagining ideas of “Spain” and “Iberia.”
