In alignment with the campus directives regarding the precautions surrounding COVID-19, the Languages and Literatures academic advising offices are now physically closed.  Our Advisors remain available and will be offering academic advising appointments to students through zoom, phone call, or email.  Once you have scheduled your appointment in the online appointment system, your advisor will reach out to you via email with instructions on how to connect with them using zoom, phone call, or email.

The Story of a First Generation Student - Languages and Literatures' own Lorenzo Zúñiga

Being the first in one's family to attend college is a major step in one's life and can be an intimidating experience - encountering a new world for which a student has not been prepared by family history. UC Davis honors its first generation students for their boldness and determination to further their education. The First Generation Initiative at UC Davis is a resource for first generation students and one of its goals is to raise awareness of these students' experiences.

Professor Robert Newcomb Publishes New Title

Congratulations to Professor Robert Newcomb on the publication of his book, Iberianism and Crisis: Spain and Portugal at the Turn of the Twentieth Century, by the University of Toronto Press.  Iberianism and Crisis examines how prominent peninsular essay writers and public intellectuals, active around the turn of the twentieth century, looked to Iberianism to address a succession of political, economic, and social crises that shook the Spanish and Portuguese states to their foundations.
