Course Description: Continuation of POR 1 in the areas of grammar and development of all basic language skills in cultural context with special emphasis on communication.

Prerequisite: Portuguese 1.

Course Description: Continuation of Portuguese 21, this course focuses on more advanced grammar concepts and further composition practice, as well as the development of all language skills through communicative activities and reading of authentic texts.

POR 100: Principles of Luso-Brazilian Literature and Criticism (4 units)

Course Description: Readings of representative works of Portuguese and Brazilian literatures (16th C-20th C), with emphasis upon historical and literary periods, interpretation, and textual analysis. Writers include: Camões, Gregório de Matos, Gonçalves Dias, Olavo Bilac, Fernando Pessoa, Drummond de Andrade, Raquel de Queiroz, Guimarães Rosa, and Clarice Lispector. The course provides a background for work in the more specialized course series of the Portuguese Minor program (POR 159,161, 162, 163). Conducted in Portuguese.

Prerequisite: First year Portuguese or the equivalent.
