In the Shadow of the Rock: Writing Gibraltar into the World

Robert Patrick Newcomb

This talk presents an overview of my current book project, which examines the literature of Gibraltar, a British Overseas Territory located in the southern Iberian Peninsula, bordering Spain and within view of the Moroccan coast. The book focuses on Gibraltarian literature’s multilingual (English/Spanish) character, and the struggles of local writers to give voice to Gibraltarian experiences.

Robert Patrick Newcomb is Professor of Luso-Brazilian Studies in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese
