Advanced Placement (AP) Examinations

Transfer credit is granted for each College Board Advanced Placement AP examination completed with an official score of 3, 4 or 5.  The credit will be part of the minimum 180 quarter units you need in order to receive a bachelor's degree.  The credit from the AP examinations may also be used to satisfy specific degree requirements.

Advanced Placement Exams

If the student has taken an AP Spanish exam the score will place them into an Intermediate Spanish course. Unlike the placement exam, students are obligated to continue the series from which they have been placed by an AP exam score. For example, if a student received a 4 in the AP Spanish Language & Culture exam their UCD course equivalent would be SPA 022. This means they would continue the series and register for SPA 023 instead of SPA 022.

Due to this obligation, students are not allowed to register for courses below their placement since they will be having an illegal repeat. For example, a student who received a 4 in the AP Spanish Language & Culture Exam cannot take SPA 022 or courses lower than this since they have been placed at this level.
