Woman speaker at conference

PhD Candidate Angelica Gonzalez-Bastidas presents at Brussels Plain Language conference

Spanish Graduate Student Angelica Gonzalez-Bastidas presented a session on AI-Driven Plain Language for California's Multilingual communities on November 7, 2025

Angela states, "I just got back, very inspired after learning so much and presenting "High-Tech, High Clarity: AI-Driven Plain Language for California's Multilingual Communities” at the Brussels Plain Language Experience 2025, where I shared how, in California, cutting-edge AI and long-standing laws often move in parallel without meeting people’s linguistic needs. Our work shows that Plain Language plus AI, co-created with communities, is the key to connecting regulation and technology so that Spanish speakers can actually understand and use essential documents. I’m deeply grateful to UC Davis and the Department of Spanish and Portuguese for their constant support in making this work, and this experience in Brussels, possible. Gracias.
