Writing Animals in the Anthropocene - A Conversation with Mexican Authors Andrés Cota Hiriart and Jorge Comensal

This event brings together Mexican authors Jorge Comensal and Andrés Cota Hiriart to discuss the limits and possibilities of literature in narrating animal life amidst the urgent context of global species extinction, particularly within the context of Mexico. Through their distinct yet complementary approaches, the authors will explore how storytelling can illuminate the complexities of human-nonhuman relationships and contribute to rethinking ecological futures.

Jorge Comensal is the author of Las mutaciones (2019), Este vacío que hierve (2022), and  Materia viva (2023) literary works that critically examine and challenge prevailing anthropocentric frameworks. Andrés Cota Hiriart, a zoologist and writer, merges scientific knowledge with literary artistry in works such as El ajolote (2018) and Fieras familiares (2022), providing interdisciplinary insights into conservation and the ethical imperatives of coexistence.
This event will be held in Spanish
