Professor Nicholas Jones has been awarded a National Endowment for the Humanities Research Grant (NEH) for his collaborative research project "Recovering Black Performance in Early Modern Iberia (1500-1800).

Congratulations Georgina Oller Bosch

Congratulations to Gina, who has been selected to receive a 2020-21 Outstanding Graduate Student Teaching Award. This award, which is sponsored by Graduate Studies, recognizes excellence in teaching by graduate students on the UC Davis campus. 

Professor Newcomb co-edits New Book

Professor Robert Patrick Newcomb is a co-editor, along with professors Cecilia Enjuto Rangel, Pedro García-Caro (both University of Oregon), and Sebastaan Faber (Oberlin College; Ph.D. in Spanish, UC Davis), of a new volume Transatlantic Studies: Latin America, Iberia, and Africa, published by Liverpool University Press.

Meet and Greet with Xóchitl Rodríguez

Rodríguez earned her BA in Spanish and International Relations from UC Davis in 2008 and her MA in Spanish from Sacramento State in 2013. Born in Saint Helena and raised in Woodland, Rodríguez is bilingual, is a first-generation college student, and a US Army veteran and reservist. She was elected to the Woodland City Council in 2016, for a four-year term. She is also active in state government and currently serves as a consultant to the California State Assembly.

Professor Michael Lazzara appeared as a featured guest on "Criaturas," a program hosted by Chilean writer and literary critic Andrea Jeftanovic, which airs on the University of Santiago de Chile Television Network. The program focuses on a Latin American literary character as a conversation starter. In this episode, Professor Lazzara discusses El Padre Mío, the main character of a book by Chilean author Diamela Eltit, who won the 2018 Chilean National Literary Award.
